Clontuskert Rounders Club was established in 2025, following a series of successful introductory training sessions, which laid solid foundations for the club. 2026 marks another positive step forward, with qualified coaches now in place and preparations well underway for the season ahead.
Training resumed in February this year with indoor sessions, and the club extends sincere thanks to Kiltormer GAA for the use of their excellent facilities, which proved invaluable during the winter and early spring.
For the summer, outdoor training is now taking place at Clontuskert Pitch. Adult training for those aged 16 and over takes place on Friday evenings from 7pm – 8pm. These sessions focus on fun, fitness, and providing a relaxed social outlet.
Trainer Darina says: “it has been brilliant to see how quickly the players have improved and grown in confidence. Some of them had never played rounders before, but after just a few short weeks, they’re getting stuck in, learning new skills, and really seem to be enjoying themselves at training.”
Her sentiments were echoed by club member Claudia, who says that she had never played rounders before, but: “I was hooked from the very first training session. Rounders is more than just a game; it’s a brilliant way to stay active at any age while having genuine fun.”
Juvenile training, for those born from 2011-17, takes place on Sunday mornings 11am – 12pm. Over the coming months, younger members will have the chance to participate in GAA competitions and Go Games, helping to develop their skills and confidence in a supportive and enjoyable environment. Under 9’s player, Thomas, says: “I love going to rounders training because I get to see my friends and play matches together. Training is really fun”.
This year the Club are excited to take part in the Multicultural Festival in Ballinasloe at the Fair Green on Saturday 20 June. Hopefully people will come along and meet some of the coaches and find out more information.
Naughton Agri Hire Ltd (Alan and Laura Naughton) and Whitethorn Retail Management have been applauded and thanked by the Club Committee for their generous sponsorship of jerseys for both juvenile and adult teams. Their support ensures players are well equipped as they take to the field this season.
