Dr Martin Daly TD – Working for Ballinasloe

Dr Martin Daly TD continues to work on issues affecting Ballinasloe, while encouraging local people and community organisations to bring concerns and ideas to his office.

School transport remains a significant concern for local families. Dr Daly recently met with education representatives. He is pursuing these concerns at Government level, while examining whether changes to Local Link services could offer practical solutions.

He is particularly pleased to see what DEIS+ is delivering for Scoil an Chroí Naofa. The school has secured two additional roles, including a full-time mental health and wellbeing coordinator, while the Deputy Principal will now become a non-teaching role. These are significant additions which will strengthen the school’s capacity to support pupils, families and staff.

At Portiuncula, Dr Daly welcomes the continued development of the hospital, particularly in emergency care. Having worked as a GP for many years, he understands the frustration of patients and families navigating waiting lists, referrals and access to treatment. His office regularly assists people by making representations and establishing what options may be available.

Flood relief remains a priority. Following Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran’s visit, Dr Daly sought a clear timetable for the Ballinasloe scheme. It is now at design stage and is intended to protect 309 homes and businesses. Public consultation is scheduled for early 2027, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028, subject to planning. The focus now must be on maintaining momentum and ensuring that timetable is adhered to.

There is also an opportunity to develop a research and innovation initiative in Ballinasloe, linked with third-level education and local expertise, and involving the IDA as the proposal develops. While still at an early stage, Dr Daly is working to explore the opportunity and secure the Government support needed to bring it forward.

The constituency office in the Ballinasloe Enterprise Hub on Society Street is open every Monday and Tuesday. Local people, clubs and community organisations are encouraged to use it. Whether there is a project that needs support, a funding opportunity worth pursuing, difficulty accessing a public service or an issue that deserves greater attention, call in and speak with the team. You do not need to know which Department, agency or funding stream to approach. Bring the issue to the office and the team will help establish the best route forward. Effective representation begins with knowing what matters locally and hearing directly from the people of Ballinasloe is central to making the strongest case for the town.
