More than 90 youngsters took part in the annual Moore Community Games track and field event at Falty Park recently. There were outstanding performances across events ranging from sprints and middle distance races, long jump and hurdles, to long puck, shot putt, javelin and ball throw. Competitors ranged in age from pre-school to under-16. Grace-Rose Dolan (12) was the winner of the Finnerty Cup for best overall performance at under-14 level.
Several of the competitors will take part in the Roscommon Community Games County Finals in Ballyleague (track events) and in Castlerea (field events). Last year the club enjoyed success in individual running (2 medals), relays (3 team medals) and long puck (2 medals) competitions at county level.

The Community Games are indebted to Moore United FC who provided the venue, and Groundsman, Brian Mullins, who ensured the pitch was in excellent condition for the afternoon’s events.
Earlier in the year, Moore Community Games organised a design-a-crest competition and the winning design, created by Éanna Loughnane (10), was selected by an independent adjudicator as the club’s crest for the future. The club recently purchased a new gazebo and the crest is featured prominently on it.

Meanwhile, more than 100 local youths took part in the local art competition, while 70 competed in the local handwriting competition. Many of the winners and runners-up will compete in the Roscommon Community Games finals in June.
The club appreciates the support from this year’s sponsors Ballinasloe Credit Union, M6 Motors and Greene’s Forge. Long-standing committee member Aidan Cruise, of Cruise Crane Hire, contributed handsomely towards the purchase of new hurdles.
The Moore Community Games Committee (2026) is: Chairperson: Suzanne Greene; Secretary: Lisa Collins; Treasurer: Sean O’Rourke; Communications/Schools Liaison: Emer Grehan; Child Liaison Officer: Aisling Jamison, and Committee members: Aidan Cruise, Liam Dolan, Sinead Grenham, Patrycja Kasak, Angela Killeen and Aine Loughnane.
