Students at the Glebe National School have been enjoying planting native plants at the pond beside their school. It was developed last year within the walled orchard of Aughrim’s 200-year-old rectory thanks to a grant from Hare’s Corner.
The children have been harvesting rainwater, seeking out soil, sticks, stones and plants, then watching as new habitats are created and biodiversity returns.
The Glebe NS is located at the heart of a unique eco-campus that includes Aughrim Climate Action Park and the Rectory Garden Project. With these outdoor classrooms on their doorstep, students learn to support biodiversity through regular gardening lessons, nature trails, tree planting and wildflower walks.
