Ballinasloe and District Vintage Club is delighted to announce an exciting new event: The Ballinasloe Pumpkin Patch, a unique community endeavour organised in aid of LauraLynn’s hub in the town.
LauraLynn is Ireland’s children’s hospice, caring for children from birth to 18 years of age. Established in 2023, it has two community hubs in Ireland, one of which is located in the Ballinasloe Enterprise Centre in Creagh. From this base, the charity operates a multi-disciplinary Community Team, providing specialist hospice care for children with palliative care needs and their families across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
Ballinasloe Social Services enjoyed another social outing for Day Centre attendees, made possible by an AIB Community Fund grant, with dinner in Gullane’s Hotel followed by BARA Singers’ 20th anniversary concert at the Town Hall Theatre.
This new project will begin in early summer with a working field day, where club members and guests will use a wide range of vintage tractors and implements. The field will be ploughed, harrowed and cultivated in the traditional way, showcasing the machinery and farming methods that have played such an important role in Irish rural life. Once the ground is prepared, a more modern machine from Beechlawn Organic Farm will sow the pumpkin seeds.
Over the following months, club members will grow and care for the crop until it is ready for harvest in October, when the main family event will take place. Everyone will be invited to visit the pumpkin field and enjoy a Halloween and vintage machinery experience. The club hopes to create a fun, spooky and welcoming atmosphere for children and adults where they can view vintage displays and collect their very own family pumpkins.
All proceeds from the event will go to the town’s LauraLynn hub. The funds will help LauraLynn continue to provide holistic care, free of charge, in the child’s own home. Ballinasloe and District Vintage Club is proud to support this service and looks forward to bringing the community together for this special event.
