New Petrol and EV Charging Station Proposed for Mackney

An application has been submitted for a large new filling station, electric charging points, and associated amenities at Mackney.

The proposed development consists of two sites. Site A will see lands to the north-east of Junction 15 on the M6, east of Garbally Roundabout, developed into the new petrol station and facilities.

Site B comprises an existing filling station at Mackney. The developers are seeking permission to demolish this filling station but retain the current shop. The plans were recently submitted by David Mackney Mulcahy of Newbridge, Co. Kildare on behalf of Petrogas Group Limited.

Site A is a large, 3.98ha site. In addition to the petrol pumps, it will have provision for 36 electric vehicle charging points, as well as four EV charging spots for HGVs. There will be two food offerings, one with a drive-thru hatch, and parking for over 100 vehicles, including 16 spaces for bikes and five for motor cycles.

There is currently a car wash facility at the existing petrol station at site B. The plans propose this service be moved from site B to site A. The development would also see the creation of a new entrance to the site from the Garbally roundabout, underground fuel storage tanks, and hard and soft landscaping.

To provide community amenities, the developers propose the creation of an outdoor play facility, outdoor seating and picnic areas, a dedicated active travel route along the northern boundary of the site from east to west, and an outdoor exercise areas.

Roof-mounted solar panels on the canopy above the electric charging points are included. A Noise Impact Report, Tree Protection Plan, and Flood Risk Assessment have been included.

The development is now available to view on www.eplanning.ie, under planning application number 25/61304. Submissions close on the 15th of Oct.
