Galway Sports Partnership and Galway Rural Development have welcomed Michael Callaghan as the town’s new Community Sports Hub Coordinator.
The Ballinasloe Community Sports Hub aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity by strengthening links between clubs, organisations, schools, and the wider community. It focuses on creating inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, particularly those facing barriers to participation. The initiative is delivered through Galway Sports Partnership, funded by Sport Ireland through the Dormant Accounts Fund, and supported by Galway Rural Development, demonstrating a strong collaborative approach to community wellbeing and social inclusion.
Michael brings over 10 years’ experience in the fitness industry and a strong passion for community engagement. He has seen first-hand the positive impact physical activity can have on physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection.
Speaking about his new role, Michael said: “I am very grateful to take on the role of Community Sports Hub Coordinator. I am excited to begin working with the people of Ballinasloe and the wider community and to build on the strong sense of community spirit that already exists.” Michael is committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome and has the opportunity to participate, regardless of background or experience. He looks forward to working with local clubs, groups, schools, and residents to develop programmes shaped by community needs and delivering lasting impact.
