  • From Dublin: 1 hr 45 min via M6 motorway westbound. Take Exit 14 for Ballinasloe.
  • From Galway: 40 min via M6 eastbound. Exit 14.
  • From Limerick: 1 hr 30 min via M18 motorway and M6.
  • From Athlone: 20 min via M6 westbound. Exit 14.

Ballinasloe is well signposted, making it the perfect road trip stop in East Galway.

By Bus

TFI Local Link buses also serve the town to surrounding towns and villages.

There are hourly Bus Services to both Dublin, Dublin Airport & Galway with both Bus Éireann and City Link.

By Rail

Ballinasloe is on the main Dublin–Galway train line, making it quick and easy to reach by rail.

  • From Dublin: Around 1 hr 40 min from Heuston Station.
  • From Galway: Around 40 min.
  • From Athlone: Around 15 min.

Station: Ballinasloe Railway Station is a short walk (10–15 min) from the town centre.

Services: Regular daily trains operated by Iarnród Éireann.

By River

Ballinasloe is accessible by boat via a route that starts on the River Shannon Navigation system and continues up the River Suck, which flows into the town. Specific access points include the Shannonbridge and Moycarn Lodge & Marina, with cruises often departing from Shannonbridge along the River Suck to Ballinasloe.
