Ballinasloe Walks And Trails are a group of people who love to walk, value the beauty and bio-diversity we have on our doorstep and in the surrounding areas of Ballinasloe especially along the Beara Breifne way (Hymany Way), Ballinasloe to Shannon Bridge and Shannon Harbour, in our local Poolboy bog and Culliagh bog.  Our first meeting was held at Christmas 2018 and the core group continues to grow, with newcomers joining all the time.  Our mission is to heighten awareness of the benefits of being and walking in nature, highlighting the importance of preserving and protecting these locations for generations to come, deriving enjoyment from getting exercise and fresh air, creating community with leadership from the ground up, and creating opportunities for people to connect with themselves and others as they walk, talk and drink tea, create new higher levels of health and wellness.

Walking and its benefits are evidenced based and are increasingly being recognized by the medical profession for contributing positively to improved health outcomes including the mental, physical and emotional aspects.  It has the ability to bring balance into our daily living and nature prescriptions are being increasingly recommended by health professionals worldwide.  According to statistics walking is one of the fastest growing forms of recreation with a growing number of walker gatherings and walking festivals gaining momentum.  Many health and fitness bodies including Croi, Get Walking Ireland, Mountaineering Ireland work in conjunction  with Sports Partnership Ireland to promote and support walking groups and clubs.

It is our vision to continue to expand and develop Ballinasloe Walks And Trails as a community.  For the month of November we are running a November Mindfulness challenge which will run three mornings a week starting on November 2nd @7.45am in Poolboy Bog.  This a 5 km walk in the bog, preceded by some warm up exercises.  This event is Free.  Participants will be encouraged to do some of the walk in silence while becoming aware through their senses of all nature’s gifts. There will be other events organized as the group evolves so please keep an eye out and watch this space.

Presently we run walks every second Sunday.  These walks range anything from 5 km to 25 km.  You can follow us on Facebook and when you join the group you will be added to a whatsapp group where you will receive all updates of our walks etc.

Please note that is group is run on a volunteer basis and your safety is your own responsibility.  We recommend on all our walks that people look after themselves, those they walk with and the group as a collective.  For new walkers we require a registration form to be filled out.
For information on our walks or other events please visit our facebook page 'Ballinasloe Walks And Trails'  or  phone 0876458979
