Ballinasloe Library is back open, and they are starting to welcome back their regular groups for their meet-ups. The Crochet and Knitting group, Cuidiú breastfeeding group, Babies/Toddlers meet-up and the Women’s group have all been able to resume their activities in the last few weeks, with the reading groups and computer classes to resume shortly also.

Following on from the lifting of restrictions the library has been able to host numerous events yet again which have drawn in many visitors and participants. Ireland Reads Day is the national day celebrating reading in Ireland. To celebrate the day the library commissioned a Storytrail, ‘Dee the Bee’ by author Dolores Keaveney for the Courtyard area. The Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Cllr. Peter Keaveney was also there to launch the project.

For International Women’s Day there were Personal Development Classes and Community Leadership Courses for women. There was plenty to talk about on the day including presentations on inspirational women, creativity and a book display. They hope to run follow-up courses in the autumn.

As part of the Cúirt festival the library hosted 2 writing workshops ‘Words in Motion’ for kids and teens who live in Direct Provision to explore and build their creativity through words, songs and stories. The event was supported by writer Chiamaka Emyi-Amadi and rapper Celaviedmai. Chiamaka’s workshop involved learning about different writing styles, showcasing their own creativity & expressing their emotions through words and building confidence in performing. Celaviedmai spoke to the children about the art of performing on stage and self-confidence.

The library is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 - 1:00 PM and 2:00pm and 5:00pm. Conradh na Gaeilge Béal Átha na Slua will present prizes to businesses with the best cultural/language themed windows during Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Judging will take place from 9-16 March.
