Live drama of a very high order returns to TheShearwater Hotel Ballinasloe on April 9th, 10th and 11th of April, when The Dunlo Players present Conor McPherson's The Seafarer.

This play, which premiered at London's National Theatre, was nominated for an Olivier Award as Best Play. The Broadway production was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play.

Set in north County Dublin it tells the story of four hard drinking friends, and a strange visitor who joins them on Christmas Eve for a game of poker.

Sharky, now on the dry, returns from Clare, where he worked as a chauffeur, to care for his blind brother, Richard. Richard's house is a drop in centre for every "misunderstood " heavy drinking, married men in the Howth area. Among them is Ivan, an almost permanent guest, who has lost his glasses. Next Nicky, who is living with Sharky's wife and children. This does not make him Sharky's favourite visitor.

The final character is Mr. Lockhart, who arrives with Nicky for the annual game of poker and booze-up. Lockhart is an immortal character from  Sharky's past, and he raises the poker stakes to eternal consequences, he is playing to win Sharky's soul.

The play is a comedy, very entertaining and enjoyable. The cast is very strong and have left no stone unturned in preparing this production by John Boland.

Cast - in order of appearance ;

James Sharky Harkin - Brendan Boland

Richard Harkin - David Hardiman

Ivan Curry - Dean Flanagan

Nicky Giblin - Barry Healy

Mr. Lockhart - Declan Kelly
