Cllr Michael Finnerty raised the issue of the development of social housing at Garbally Drive at this month’s Municipal District meeting at the Civic Offices. Recently, an application was made for the development under the Part 8 Planning. It would consist of the building of between 10 and 12 new social houses. The application is due to be brought up at Galway County Council’s October meeting on Monday, October 24, as the final decision lies on the entire Council and not the Municipal District. A report will be issued to all members of the Council. “We’ve to wait for the report and see what happens because there are quite a few points that we want to highlight at that meeting”, said Cllr Finnerty. Cllr Dermott Connolly showed his support for the residents of Garbally Drive. “I think that it’s important that the issues raised by the residents would be, and I’m sure it will, be taken on board by Galway County Council”, he added. The application was pushed back until the October meeting so that the concerns highlighted by the residents could be addressed prior to the report being put to the Council. Issues that were raised at a recent public meeting in Gullane’s Hotel included traffic concerns and the risk of flooding in the area.
