Last Sundays Vintage Tractor Run, organised by members of Ballinasloe and District Vintage Club was a resounding success. Over forty vintage tractors registered for this years event, a substantial increase in numbers from last year. The quality of the vehicles entered was astounding with many variants of the veteran Ferguson 20 right up to the more modern yet classic John Deere and Ford tractors well represented among the entries. A good day was had by all which was started off by a hearty breakfast served in Gullanes Hotel. The route then took the tractors and drivers along a scenic route around the environs of Ballinasloe through the picturesque villages of Ahascragh, Fohenagh (via Clonbrock), Kilconnell and Aughrim. The run eventually finished up at the East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support Centre where a beautiful spread of homemade food, tea and coffee was served, a welcome treat for the weary drivers after their long drive of almost 40kms.
Chairman of the Vintage Club Shane Burns gives many thanks to all who made the day a success both before and during the event and in particular the drivers who traveled quiet a distance to support the run. An official presentation of monies raised on the day will be made to the clubs main benefactors East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support at a date in the near future.
